TOM DENNIS, P.E.
Principal, Administration
As Administrative Manager of HDJ Design Group, Tom Dennis has been involved in nearly all of the firm’s projects since he co-founded it with Brian Hopper in 1980.
Through the years Tom has specialized in various aspects of civil engineering design and project planning, personnel assignments, scheduling, and contract administration. Currently his primary responsibility involves an in-depth review of technical structure and codes for each project to coordinate code requirements on every aspect of the design. Tom’s relevant continuing education includes recent Transpeed seminars on Roadway Value Engineering and Construction Site Erosion and Pollution Control. He has 35 years of experience in civil engineering design and has worked with all local agencies through two decades of change. His experience in shepherding projects through local processes and codes, and his long-term knowledge of how these processes work, has proved invaluable on projects involving policy issues. He knows how ordinances can work together to bring projects into compliance with policy relating to wetlands, zoning, storm drainage and many other aspects of development code.
As senior process facilitator for HDJ Design Group, Tom’s role on each project is to look beyond specific issues and take a broader view of how all the pieces relate to each other so that the civil design component will work well with other components of the project and code requirements.
